The topic of today's do's and don'ts is how to maintain healthy, bright skin over the winter. Is a winter skincare routine for dry skin and how to acquire healthy glowing skin in the winter. The atmosphere dries up our skin throughout the winter, and no matter how much we moisturise it, it ends up drying out and evaporating. That's why it's vital to moisturise and hydrate the skin, but also to prepare so that the moisture doesn't evaporate. We've compiled a list of five dos and don'ts for dry skin in the winter.
Do 1: Daily habits to keep skin hydrated
Skin hydration is a topic that deserves its own article. When it comes to the skin, we need to understand what the body needs and how certain products can help us achieve this goal. We need to know what is healthy for our bodies, and whatnot. I cover the top three daily habits to keep your skin hydrated. Let's get into it!
1) Drink Plenty Of Water - This may sound like common sense, but if you are dehydrated, your skin won't function at full capacity. Most people don't drink enough water, yet they feel thirsty. If you aren't drinking enough water, then you aren't hydrating your cells and your body will start to pull moisture from other places. So, start small and add more water throughout the day. Try having two gallons of water before bedtime, and see if that helps!
2) Use A Good Quality Moisturizer - Your face has about 70% sweat glands, meaning that it loses a lot of water through them. Therefore, you want to use moisturizers that have good SPF protection. You're also going to lose water through breathing, so using moisturizers that block that out is also beneficial. Using a quality product is beneficial for you in the morning when you first wake up, in the evening right before you go to sleep, and even in between those times while you're sleeping. Make sure that you put some moisturizer on after showering, too!
3) Hydrate With Green Tea Extract - Green tea contains catechins, which are powerful antioxidants that help protect against free radicals and reduce inflammation. Free radicals can cause damage to DNA and lead to premature aging, so it's important to consume foods and drinks rich in these antioxidants that slow down the effects of aging.

Do 2: Eat foods that keep skin hydrated
It's just as vital to look after your skin on the inside as it is on the outside. Every day, drink 1.5 to 2 litres of water and consume moist fruits and vegetables. Especially if your skin is dry. Broccoli, avocados, carrots, and honey are all good sources of amino acids. All of them are natural moisturisers.
If your skin is dry, dull and flaky, you may want to try eating foods that are rich in vitamins A, C, and B's because they help maintain skin hydration. Foods like spinach, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, papaya, strawberries, watermelon, melon, bananas, apples, avocado, kiwi fruit, and mangoes are all great sources of these antioxidants. These fruits and veggies contain high levels of beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, which are all powerful antioxidants that protect the body from free radical damage. Research suggests that vitamin E can increase the rate at which your skin sheds dead cells and helps prevent wrinkles. Also, according to Dr. David G. Katz, M.D., director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center, “Antioxidants seem to help protect against sunburn, but evidence is mixed about whether antioxidants can reduce the risk of cancer.”
Do 3: Hydrating ingredients
Water is the only non-living substance that can survive without being changed. Water is an essential element that allows life to exist. Without water, nothing would remain alive. Water is necessary for humans to stay healthy and hydrated. It keeps our bodies from drying out and helps maintain proper body temperature. Our skin cannot function properly if we are dehydrated. We need water to keep our hair looking great, to flush waste products from our system, and to help us absorb minerals and vitamins.
We should drink at least 8 glasses of water per day to stay hydrated. This can vary depending on your age, climate, activity level, and diet. If you're not getting enough fluids, you may feel tired, have dry mouth, constipation, headaches, muscle cramps, bloating, poor concentration, thirst, dark urine, or light-colored stools.
There are many ways to add moisture to your food. You can use fresh herbs or fruits, sprinkle salt over foods, add fruit juice to beverages, or even eat foods like cucumbers, celery, lettuce, and tomatoes. To make sure you get all the nutrition you need in each meal, try adding some of these hydrating ingredients to your meals.
Do 4: Hydrating post-cleanse night care
Cannabis has been known to cause dry eyes, but hydration can actually help prevent this condition. Dry eyes are caused by the lack of moisture in your eye due to excessive water loss from the body. This usually happens when there is not enough water in the body; since the body’s surface area is larger than the volume of blood circulating through it, more water leaves the body than enters it.
The most common ways we lose water are sweating, breathing, urinating, and the evaporation of perspiration (or sweat). When you sweat, you lose about 2 – 3 liters of water per day just through the normal activity! That means that if you work out regularly you could easily dehydrate yourself after only a few days without getting adequate sleep and drinking plenty of water. In addition, our skin naturally loses anywhere from 1 – 6 ml of water per hour when we’re exposed to sunlight. So even if you don’t exercise or go outside, you still may be losing water at a rapid rate.
If you have ever had a long flight, you probably know how uncomfortable dry air makes your throat feel. Air conditioning can make things worse though because cold temperatures increase the amount of water lost from the body via condensation. You can reduce the chances of this happening when you take frequent breaks while traveling.
It is best to drink before you start working out, rather than waiting until you get thirsty. If you wait until you begin feeling thirsty, you might end up starting to lose too much water. Your muscles need access to water to keep them well hydrated and healthy. They require water during intense activities like lifting weights, running, cycling, swimming, etc. If they do not receive sufficient amounts of water, they can become weak and sore.
Don't 1: Avoid skin drying habits
1. Sunscreen
While it may seem like common sense that using sunscreen is necessary to prevent sunburns and other skin damage, many people have trouble applying sunscreen properly. This can lead to dryness around your eyes and mouth, chapped lips, and even cracked hands. These conditions are especially harmful if allowed to continue over time, since they make it harder to keep your skin moisturized. When using any kind of lotion or cream to apply sunscreen, use enough to cover your entire body. Also, avoid putting sunscreen directly under your eyes, since it will wash out into tears, causing discomfort. If you do need to put sunscreen under your eyes, wait at least fifteen minutes before going outside again to let the product absorb.
2. Avoid Deodorants
Deodorant sprays contain chemicals called parabens, which act as hormone disruptors. You should choose deodorant sprays without these ingredients, since they could interfere with your hormonal system and cause changes in your menstrual cycle. Additionally, some antiperspirants leave behind aluminum salts, which can actually increase sweating. The best way to control odor while not sacrificing comfort is to stick with natural products that rely on baking soda, clay, charcoal, or aloe vera.
3. Don’t Use Toothpaste With Artificial Coloring
Toothpastes with artificial coloring are typically loaded with chemicals that aren’t good for your oral health. Many brands claim their toothpaste protects against cavities, but studies show they don’t help reduce plaque buildup. They might even promote gum disease! Instead, look for natural varieties that either come from coconut oil or include herbs like cinnamon and clove. Even better, brush your teeth twice daily with baking soda. Baking soda neutralizes bad breath and whitens teeth naturally.
Don't 2: Avoid foods that dry out the skin
1. Sugar
Sugar feeds bacteria and fungi that cause acne breakouts, fungal infections, and inflammation. It’s best to avoid eating sweets like chocolate, cakes, candies, pastries, ice cream, etc., since they are loaded with sugar. Sugary treats can trigger inflammation and clogged pores, which leads to breakouts and pimples. If you have acne problems, try cutting back on your intake of sugary food.
2. Processed Meats
Processing meat causes it to lose its nutritional value. When meats are cooked, they lose moisture and vitamins, while retaining fat and protein. This makes them less healthy than if they were eaten raw. Many processed meats contain nitrates, which can lead to cancer. Try to limit your intake of processed meats and only eat those you prepare yourself.
3. Alcoholic Drinks
Alcoholic drinks give your body zero nutrition. They are essentially empty calories that do nothing for your health. Drinking alcohol may make you feel good at first but over time it takes away from your overall well-being. Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages whenever possible.
Don't 3: Use ingredients that dry out your skin
The skin is known to be dried out by alcohol and ethanol. While alcohol and ethanol might temporarily make your skin feel chilly, long-term use can actually take moisture from your skin and evaporate moisture you already have, so keep your eyes away from it. If these compounds come into touch with the skin on a regular basis, they can irritate it.
Don't 4: Frequent exfoliation
If our skin becomes rough and dry, or if our makeup doesn't apply well, we often turn to exfoliation. However, excessive exfoliation can cause skin irritation. Removing skin that shouldn't be removed, resulting in a thickening of the dead skin layer However, cleaning or applying a mask before removing the layer of dead skin prevents moisture absorption, so exfoliate only once or twice a week when the skin is dry and give it plenty of moisture.
